Happy New Year Karachi

Happy New Year To All.. May this year joy and happiness for Muslim World, especially Pakistan.

December 31st is normally a fun night in the city, motor-cyclist - who are a total nuisance without their silencers - from around the city pass this and other adjacent roads to get to the Sea View for celebrating the arrival of New Year in Karachite's way. Normally, everybody dines in to their favorite restaurant in all pockets of city. The city basically is alive.

But I missed all that today. Some say that politics has the reason for it, other would blame the terrorists and miscreants, some point fingers towards the government's inability to secure the city but I think that it is the people of the city who have just lost it all. We have become increasingly afraid of our own shadow and dare not to face the realities. Although, I do not suggest everyone to just compromise their security but somewhere I think we are just too careful at times and don't let the life come out of us.

But that's just me.

Oh and by the way, Have a great year ahead.

Eid Al-Adha In 2008

Eid al-Adha in 2008 is on Monday, the 8th of December.

Note that in the Muslim calander, a holiday begins on the sunset of the previous day, so observing Muslims will celebrate Eid al-Adha on the sunset of Sunday, the 7th of December.

Although Eid al-Adha is always on the same day of the Islamic calendar, the date on the Gregorian calendar varies from year to year, since the Gregorian calendar is a solar calendar and the Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar. This difference means Eid al-Adha moves in the Gregorian calendar approximately 11 days every year. The date of Eid al-Adha may also vary from country to country depending on whether the moon has been sighted or not.

The dates provided here are based on the dates adopted by the Fiqh Council of North America for the celebration of Eid al-Adha. Note that these dates are based on astronomical calculations to affirm each date, and not on the actual sighting of the moon with the naked eyes. This approach is accepted by many, but is still being hotly debated.

Eid Al-Adha: Festival of the Sacrifice

'Id Al-Adha or Eid al-Adha (Arabic عيد الأضحى, "Festival of the Sacrifice") is a major Islamic festival that takes place at the end of the Hajj. It is also known as 'Id al-Qurban or al-'Id al-Kabir (Major Festival).

Eid al-Adha marks the completion of the hajj (pilgrimage) rites at Mina, Saudi Arabia, but is also observed by Muslims throughout the world to commemorate the faith of Ibrahim (Abraham).

On Eid al-Adha, families that can afford it sacrifice an animal such as a sheep, goat, camel, or cow, and then divide the meat among themselves, the poor, friends and neighbors. In Britain, the law requires that this be done in a slaughterhouse. The sacrifice is called Qurban. During the sacrifice, the following prayer is recited:

In the name of Allah
And Allah is the greatest
O Allah, indeed this is from you and for you
O Allah accept it from me.

Eid al-Adha is a public holiday in Muslim countries. Like 'Id al-Fitr, 'Id Al-Adha begins with communal prayer at daybreak on its first day, which takes place at the local mosque. Worshippers wear their finest clothes for the occasion. It is also a time for visiting friends and family and for exchanging gifts.

Ramadan & Eid-ul-Fitar Celebration In Pakistan

Eid al-Fitr in Pakistan is known as chhoti (small) or meethi (sweet) Eid. Eid preparations start with the beginning of the month of Ramadan and continue throughout the month. It is customary for almost everyone to wear new dress. So the shopping goes on throughout the month of Ramadan.

The marketplaces are decorated to welcome `Eid shoppers. Special sale prices are offered on garments and shoes. Young girls and older women wear bangles made of fine glass. The night when the moon is sighted is fixed for this activity. Womenfolk in huge numbers throng the special bangle stalls and shops as soon as the Shawwal moon is sighted. Men and elders usually exchange moon greetings. Telephone these days are frequently used for this late evening exchange of greetings.

Pakistani girls show their hands painted with henna ahead of the Muslim festival of Eid-al-Fitr to celebrate Ramadan ending.

For the children it is a very happy day because they receive money from all the elders, to spend and enjoy themselves. They also can receive clothes or gifts. It is like Christmas. Employees get bonuses, factories and offices close down for a couple of days, and food and money are distributed to the poor. Because it marks the end of Ramadan, `Eid al-Fitr is always an occasion for a big meal, and families come together like Thanksgiving.

Eid ul-Fitr is a happy occasion with significant religious meaning, celebrating the accomplishment of enhanced devoutness. It is a day of pardon, moral victory, peace, fellowship, sodality and unity. Muslims commemorate not just the end of the Ramadan month, but also thank Allah for giving them self-discipline and strength. It's generally a time of sharing, giving, and forgiving. It's a time to enjoy what you have, to dress in holiday clothes, spend time with family, and in all this always thank God for his benevolence and love.

Karachi City Pictures

Karachi is one of the largest cities in the world. It is home to 9 million people alone in the city and over 15 million people in the whole metro area. Karachi is also home to Pakistan's skyscrapers; there are many buildings which cover the skyline from the coast to the suburbs. As good as this may sound there are a few major problems in Karachi; the first is it's image which has greatly been damaged thanks too the western media and there blind eye reporting. Karachi is a great place to visit.
